Dementia capable CARE Workshop
CPA is offering this workshop in partnership with the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices (NTG) and Dr. Kathleen Bishop (see bio below). CPA members receive a 50% discount on one registration for groups of two or more!
Intended Audience
Any disability or aging staff that come in contact with or are responsible for aging adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities that are at risk for or have developed dementia. These staff include, but are not limited to: DSPs, behavior analysts, nurses, psychologists, OT/PT/Speech/Activity staff, physicians, and program administrative and supervisory staff.
TWO COURSE options
1. FOUNDATION WORKSHOP
Monday thru Thursday, October 5 - 8, 2020
9:00 am - 1:30 pm Central Time
This workshop covers the basics of IDD and Dementia.
2. AFFILIATED REGIONAL TRAINER WORKSHOP ("Train-the-Trainer")
Monday thru Friday, October 5 thru 9, 2020
9:00 am - 1:30 pm Central Time
This workshop is for those wishing to become an "Affiliated NTG Regional Trainer." The first four days of the workshop cover the topics outlined above in the Foundation Workshop. The fifth day is devoted to understanding and delivering the full NTG Dementia Capable Care Curriculum.
Meet the speaker
Kathleen M. Bishop, Ph.D.
experience
Dr. Bishop has over 40 years of experience in the developmental disabilities field and over 20 as a Gerontologist with a specialty in aging with developmental disabilities. She has a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Special Education and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University in aging with disabilities.
Current Interests
Dr. Bishop works as a consultant for many organizations in the aging and IDD fields, assisting with program and support planning. She also teaches online courses at Utica College and continues to present nationally and internationally on topics related to aging and developmental disabilities.
Dr. Bishop is co-chair of the NTG Group Education and Training committee. She has been an active member of the NTG since the inception and is a member of the NTG Steering Committee.

Areas of expertise include environmental modifications and developmental disabilities, caregiving for adults with dementia and IDD, and women with disabilities.
